The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is a unique number assigned to identify 3GPP and iDEN mobile phones, as well as some satellite phones. Your IMEI number is very unique and noting it down can help you track your phone when it gets lost or stolen with advancement in Cyber Security Protocols.

ON THE OTHER HAND MEID

The Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) is a globally unique number identifying a physical piece of CDMA2000 mobile station equipment. The number format is defined by the 3GPP2 report S. R0048 but in practical terms, it can be seen as an IMEI but with hexadecimal digits. The MEID is more like a personal device identification number.

DIFFERNCE

The difference between the two is the amount of characters in each identification number. 

GSM networks like AT&T and T-Mobile use IMEI numbers. CDMA networks such as Sprint, Verizon, and US Cellular use MEID numbers.

Note that Your MEID number is just found within you IMEI number. So If you want the MEID number, ignore the last digit in the IMEI number.

BELOW ARE NUMEROUS WAYS TO KNOW YOUR IMEI NUMBER

There are multiple ways to find your IMEI number.

  1. Phone 3,3G,3GS,4 or 4s have the IMEI engraved on the SIM card tray.
  2. Original iPhone, iPhone 5,5c or 5s have the IMEI engraved on the back of the device.

On your iPhone:

  1. Click on settings.
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap About
  4. Scroll down the about page to locate IMEI.

On the computer

  1. Plug your phone into computer and open iTunes.
  2. Select your phone from the device menu in the upper right corner of the iTunes page.
  3. Click Summary tab
  4. Click on Phone Number between the lines capacity and serial number.
  5. You click it once and MEID pops up
  6. You click it twice and IMEI pops up

  1. Remove your battery from your device. The location of the IMEI number varies from device to device but the number should be printed on the sticker under the battery.

On your phone:

  1. Open the Settings menu.
  2. Tap About Phone
  3. Tap Status
  4. The IMEI number will be right there

On the computer:

  1. Go to Google Dashboard
  2. Log in to your Google Account associated with Android device
  3. Make the Android section larger by clicking the Android title.
  4. Locate your device.
  5. The IMEI will be right there beside your device name.
