Its most often annoying when avalanches of unwanted text messages from different sources keep flooding your phone uncontrollably. The situation is worse off these days with the numerous loan and financial institutions who have captured public sector workers and continuously push uncounted number of messages to their phones. Sometimes these messages even overshadow some important text message alerts you may be expecting.
In this article, you can block text messages from a specific number or contact on your Android device with a third-party solution. You only need to follow these few set of instructions to do that.
There are two options to do this.
Option 1
These steps are for the stock “Messages” app included with Android 7. Some users may have a different app for messaging.
- Open “Messages “.
- Press the “Menu” (icon at the upper-right corner).
- Select “Blocked contacts “.
- Tap “Add a number” to add a number you wish to block.
If you want to delete a number from the blacklist, return to the Blocked contacts screen, and select the “X” next to the number.
One good news is that, users of the blocked contacts will never receive any alert that they have been blocked.
Option 2
If your messaging app does not provide the option to block text messages, you will have to download a third-party app called Handcent.
Steps;
- Install Handcent SMS app from Google Play store.
Note; this may require you disable the notification for your current text messaging app in order to prevent double notifications.
- Open Handcent
- Select the menu at the upper left corner of the screen
- Switch from “Inbox” to “More “.
- Click on “Settings “.
- Scroll down and select “Manage blacklist “.
- Tap the plus (+) icon to add the phone number you want to block. You can choose one from your contacts, call logs, or input the number directly.
This blocks all text messages from the contact number you have added and does not even give you a notification you’ve received a message from the person either.
Follow the steps below If you want to unblock the person,
- return to the “Manage blacklist” screen,
- tap it, then select “Unblack list “.
Hope you are cool to go.
